Touch Me Not

Image
So this poem has a cool story. While I was at Ellerslie, a 5-week Bible Summit in Windsor Colorado, I heard a message titled, We will not Fear. The speaker shared a true story that happened during the time of the Roman Empire. There was a stag that was given a plaque around its neck with these words inscribed on it: "I belong to Caesar, Touch Me not." That stag had the freedom to travel anywhere in the kingdom and even wander into enemy territory, remaining safe because of who he belonged to. The same is true for us as Christians. You see, we belong to Jesus which means that we carry His Name. We have the knowledge that the enemy has no say over our lives except for what we choose to give him. And even in our hardest moments, he has no legal right over us, we are no longer his slaves. The session really impacted my heart and directly afterward, the Holy Spirit gave me this poem. I pray it encourages your heart and reminds you of the authority you carry as a child of the K...

The Power of Hope

Image
Hope.  A gentle breath of fresh air in a stifling desert of doubt. A wondrous idea that maybe life has more meaning and purpose than just merely living.  Hope.  A life-giving cure for bitter arrows which  pierce deep inside us and speak to our heart the lie that we don't matter. Hope.  More than a moment of enlightenment and much stronger than the chords of dissonance that ripple in our ears, compelling us to give up. To stop trying. To run away.  Hope. It's like a soft whisper when the voices of the world are so loud it feels suffocating. A still, small voice beckons us to come a little closer. To dive a little deeper. To fight a little longer. To walk on water, then on air with the King.  Hope. A treasure this world will never truly understand. A strength for a weary heart that is beaten down by disappointment and discouragement.  Hope.  A miracle wrapped into human form. Hope came for us. Hope pursued us. To deliver us from the bondage of...

A Prayer for the Unknown

Image
Abba,  You promised You'd go with me, so here I stand clinging to that promise with all my heart. So many unknowns seem to cloud the future and I can't see clearly. Give me the grace to do the next right thing, resting in the knowledge that You will never leave my side. My life is as a painting and You are the Master Artist. Every stroke of the brush has a purpose, and every color chosen has meaning. Thank you for seeing the beauty in my brokenness and calling me to discover the intrinsic beauty in those around me. For all are created in Your image.  You are Worthy. You are Worthy of all I am. So with nervous excitement, I step out onto the waves with you. The billows roll and waves crash around me, but I am safe in the shadow of Your wings. My heart beats with a sweet assurance that You have already pathed the way for me to follow. Guide me, Thou Great Jehovah! For I know not what I am stepping into, yet I know You know every detail and every struggle I will face. You ...

Daughter

Image
Sometimes we feel lonely and discouraged in life. It seems like no matter how hard we try we can never measure up to the expectations of those around us and those we place on ourselves. Because this is the reality in which we live, we tend to follow the same pattern in our relationship with God.       We imagine that if we could only reach the standard that He gives to us, we would be lauded as a 'good Christian.' However, the beautiful truth is that He has come to set us free from the lie that our worth and value are found in the way we perform. His words to us are richer than the tantalizing lies of this world and if we take the time to listen, our hearts and souls can be refreshed. Daughter Beloved daughter of the King Your work doesn't go unnoticed I've got you in my Loving Hands Just give me all your focus. Doubts and fears may cloud your mind The truth will set you free I'll give you strength for each new day You can trust in me. Come ...

The God Who Sees

Image
You see me. You see every part of me and you still invite me into a relationship with you. A deep, beautiful fellowship with the One who knows me more intimately than anyone ever could. You see my brokenness and speak restoration into my life. Like a potter with a lump of clay, you see potential in me. You mold my life into a vessel that will bring Your Name honor, for this is the reason I was created. You see my tears that fall to the ground as I cry out to you with my mind full of questions, and You gently bring your healing touch and embrace me with identity, crowning me with grace and beauty. You see my doubts and call me to trust You without wavering. To believe in Your identity that will never fade or change. You see when I fall down and in Your mercy, You reach out Your hand to pick me up, dust me off and stand me upright to walk again.            You see my fears and remind me of Your promises that will never fail, no matt...

Trust

Image
This poem came to me while I was preparing to go to Nepal on a mission trip. We had just been told that several people on our team were now unable to go. Both of the girls in question are dear friends of mine and I was very disappointed. As I was digesting this startling news, words started to form in my head and I quickly wrote them down in the journal in front of me. God taught me a lot about trust in that season and I am grateful that He is always open to listening to my questions especially when I don't understand the way He's working. Trust Trust is such a beautiful thing  I can't understand it sometimes  Like a journey still to travel  Or a poem yet to rhyme I get so disappointed  When expectations aren't met  My heart longs to trust You  My mind wants to forget  Where are You in the valley Dreams smashed against reality  Are You there to hold my hand? Do You truly understand? I know You see each piece  In this puzzl...

Surrender

Image
This is a poem that God gave me at the start of the new year 2022. The words came at a moment when I was feeling some fear about how unknown my plans were for that year. It was during that time of questioning that He gave me this poem with a promise that He would carry me through, come what may. As I read back over it now, I see how He has used both the desert and fruitful seasons of my life to draw my heart closer to His throughout the years. He truly is worthy of our surrender. Surrender A freedom found in letting go  A joy the world can never know. From shards into a masterpiece A heart of love that gently speaks.  I kneel before my Savior King  Place in His hands, my everything  A burden lifts up from my heart A purpose deep, He then imparts Why can't people understand?  Why don't they realize, they're part of His plan?  The brighter the fire, the deeper the trust  There's so much He's willing to give to us.  With tea...
